1916 Singer

I cannot count my day complete

'Til needle, thread and fabric meet.

~ Unknown

I always wanted an old sewing machine.

I found one in an Antique store with a table.

This one was made Feb 1st, 1916.

Yes, I am sure of that fact!

I called the Sewing Machine Factory and gave the model number.

In return, they even told me it was made around 1 in the afternoon.

It is one of those Sewing Machines that actually looks pretty just sitting out with no obligation to use it!

So, unlike the "modern" Sewing Machine that Beloved bought me.

Yes, I am talking about the one that is upstairs in the closet.

Thanks to my Parents, the Little Lady now has a sewing bug.

So, I am obligated to use it.

The Little Lady is just in stitches.

I told her that we will set it up in her room.

  1. How cool! Where did you find this? I am so glad your Little Lady is interested, what a wonderful skill to have!
I was fortunate enough to get my grandmother's treadle sewing machine.
Someday I'll have to post a pic.

  2. Aunt Sidney, I found the sewing machine and table in a little antique shop out where the Little Lady takes Horseback riding lessons. I got the table and the machine for around $50.

There is a place in Atlanta Georgia that works on treadle sewing machines and gets them back in working order. One day, on the way through that city, I would like to drop it off and see what they can do to it. I think it could be working in no time. It still has the needle in it.

How special that you were able to get your grandmother's machine!

If your machine is a Singer, you can call the 1-800 number and give them the model number off the machine. They can tell you the very day it was made and even send you a owners instruction manual.

Yes, I want to see a pic!
