Garden Growing: 5 weeks

"He who plants a garden, plants happiness." - garden quote

It has been five weeks since I planted my little pot garden!

Cherry Tomato

Cuccumbers
The stems are not quite long enough for me to trail them up yet so they have to grow a little bit more. Once they grow I can get their vines to hook up and then they will bush out and upwards. Right now, it looks like a jumbled mess but it isn't. We are going away on a trip though and I am hoping that they don't grow past what I can hook up on the top poles. Other wise, I will have a jumbled mess!

Little Peppers

Beans...
They are slowly going up!
Peas.
Not going so well.
I wonder if  they are getting to much sun/heat.
The water reservoirs are not at the point where they have to be filled up with water every other day! Soon, it will be every day.  There is a little gal in my neighborhood that is grabbing my mail and watering my plants while I am on a trip. We will see if she can keep them alive. I have already killed a few already. I don't know if those peas are going to make it at all.

Garden Beans and Cucumbers

Gardening is a matter of your enthusiasm holding up until your back gets used to it.  ~Author Unknown

Our Garden pots have done well.
Extremely surprised!
Especially since this area has a huge problem with blight and powdered mildew.

She is bringing in the beans and cucumbers!

We have green tomatoes too.
Unfortunately, they haven't turned red yet!
Not sure what is going on with them. Do you?

.......Too much rain and not enough sun, maybe?

Giving Container Gardening a Whirl

Gardening requires lots of water - most of it in the form of perspiration.  ~Lou Erickson

I suppose to those who are not military and have never lived on an military instillation they might not know that you are not allowed to dig up the yard and have a garden. So, as usual, the military wives in my neighborhood have had to get creative!  Two neighbors have done raised vegetable beds. Another lady is doing strawberry and tomato hanging baskets.

I have chosen to give container gardening a whirl.

Cucumbers
We have already pulled six off and we will be cutting about three off tomorrow.

Tomatoes

Mostly green foliage with only a few flowers.
I need some bees to start pollinating or I am going to have to do it myself.

Beans
We have pulled a zip lock bag off already and they are just starting to grow well.
They are sucking up the water though!
I have to fill the water up every day.

We also have a strawberry pot, blueberry and raspberry!
However, they get to about this amount of leaves and the deer come and get a munch!

My poor raspberry bucket is just twigs which is how they left this strawberry pot just a few weeks ago. So, with the twig pot, I might have to pull it all up and try some thing different in it.

I am really tickled by the prospects of doing well!

Growing in Garden Pots

"Easily pick 60 pounds of tomatoes from one garden box. Replace an entire in ground garden with just six boxes." - http://www.agardenpatch.com

I am skeptical! But the images that I have seen on g**gle and blog land are amazing.

We can't have a garden on the military instillation here
So we are trying our hand at the grow box by garden patch.

We will see....
the deer have already eaten my landscaping bushes!

Bringing in the red

"The table did look pretty. It was set as a table should be set, with dishes and glasses and silver in the correct places, and napkins neatly folded..."   Grace Livingston Hill, Re-Creations

Dessert is in the middle!
A Valentine Chocolate Voltaire for Beloved's sweet tooth!

Nothing fancy.
Although, the black or red chargers that will go underneath the white plates at meal time do come out.
Other than that, with 4 Little Ones around, we save room for the food!

The Lord is the Everlasting God

Do you not know?
Have you not heard?
The LORD is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
and his understanding no one can fathom.

An Afternoon of Picking Flowers

"To pick a flower is so much more satisfying than just observing it, or photographing it ... So in later years, I have grown in my garden as many flowers as possible for children to pick." ~- A.S.James

An afternoon in which they picked flowers for my kitchen vase.

Grocery Store Flowers

God loved the flowers and invented soil.  Man loved the flowers and invented vases.  ~A popular variation of a saying by Jacques Deval

Beloved and the Little Gentleman picked up a few odds and ends at the grocery store. They came home with these beautiful flowers. When they got home the Little Gentleman ran in toward me with a huge smile and proudly threw them at me! They landed some what half way on the counter.  Immediately when the girls saw them they wanted to pick the roses out so they could put them in their hair. The Little Lady said, "Oh! It is always so nice of Dad when he brings you home some flowers."  The Little Man said "It was nice of him."

He is romantic so I just smiled
...but it never hurts to write "flowers" on the grocery store list.

Easter Blessing

"Now may the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever." Hebrews 13:20-21

Winter and White Flowers

In the depths of winter I finally learned that within me there lay an invincible summer.- Albert Camus

Winter and White just seem to be a natural fit for my Dining Room in January. The weather outside is cold and brisk and the change of colors seems so *clean* after having just coming from my typical go to Every Day Colors and Christmas red.

~

White Candles, cream/white doilies seem so pleasant as I moved it all into its special place just a few weeks ago. Yet, the room was calling out for something a little bit different still.

It has been so long since I have bought flowers.

Oh, Those Poinsettias

"Poinsettias, named for Joel Roberts Poinsett, are native southern Mexico and Central America plants, and can grow as tall as 16 feet. Legend has it that a young Mexican child could not afford to offer Christ a gift on Christmas Eve, so he picked some weeds from the side of a road, in the belief that even his humble gift, given in love, would be worthy. When the weeds were brought into the church, they bloomed into red and green flowers, which the congregation agreed was a Christmas miracle." ~ History of the Poinsettias

A couple of weeks ago as Beloved was headed out the door, I said, "Come home with some flowers." He came home with two poinsettia plants. Not exactly what I was thinking for a flower arrangement for the table but they are perfect for Christmas!
