A Camper is the best place for fun gadgets, widgets, gizmos and thingamabobs! ~ Rving Facts
I have camped all my life! My parents have dragged me around in all sorts of campers while traveling the United States. I think over my life time my Parents have had at least 5 different campers. It was just a Family past time so when Beloved and I got married in Nov 1997 it didn't take long before my Parents were back camping on the road that Spring. My Parents go out often so when they were closer to home they would ask us to join them for the day. During those times, we would drive out to a couple of the local state parks and spend the day biking, hiking and talking around the campfire. It didn't take long before Beloved got the itching to get him a camper.
So, in 2000, we bought a "lightly used" 10 year old pop up camper. We bought it for $2,500. It was the best recreational investments that we ever made. We loved it. We spent a good many weekends doing short trips to the local parks but we also dragged that thing to Arkansas one year, it went up to Minnesota, into Alabama and down to Disney. We were also into camping the Scenic By-ways -- Natches Trace was fun! Beloved and I think we have stayed in at least 1/2 of the Georgia State parks too.
(We also tent camped along the ShenandoahValley and the Blue Ridge)
Now, I say all this because one of the things that all DIE HARD campers have on their campers are the United State Sticker Maps and Canada Maps! Beloved purchased one for our new camper too.
You wouldn't believe that this thing would probe so much conversation but it did! The first question was "Where do we put that Map?" Some people have it on their doors, their windows, just above the back bumper, etc. I told Beloved that I wanted ours on our slide. That way people can see it when we are set up but it gets hidden as we go down the highway!
Now, you wouldn't think that there would be any more discussion on a map! But, there is a lot of excitement about getting a new camper! So, Beloved asked all of us, "Do we put the stickers on it for the trips that we only take in THIS camper?" "Do we put the stickers on it from only the time we have camped in ANY campers?" "Do we put the stickers on it from all the places we have been since we have been married that we have either used a tent or a camper?"
With so many opinions, Beloved decided that since our Little Family was established in 1997 that we would include all the States Beloved and I have ever camped in!
He looks pleased with his new "Family Memory-Maker Investment".
Now, if I can only remind myself to get my Dad to make me a 3x4 Canvas Flag that I can sew all our State and National Park Patches on that would be great! Because, Die Hard campers decorate their over night spot too! :)
So, so glad that part of Wyoming and MT are shaded in!! We need to do it again!
ReplyDeleteWon't the map get caught up in the slide? Just thinking of the seal scrapping across the map.
ReplyDeleteI've been wanting to get one of those too. mom
I have seen a few with them in that spot on some older campers. I didn't think about the slidding seal going across it. So, I guess I will find out in a couple of weeks when we take it back out for the Little Man's birthday. We are also taking it out on Labor Day weekend. What are y'alls plans?
ReplyDeleteDo you all go to those places for something inparticular or just to travel? I am new to your site and like the idea of shading in on the map where you have been...we don't even have a way to camp, busy in the home these days. I like the idea of seeing the USA though camp sites and traveling with your family. Sincerely, Mommy of two little blessings & so much more!
