" Disney Free? No way!" - Unknown
When you stay at any of the Disney Hotels you get transportation FREE to all the Disney "Theme" parks and to any of the Disney Hotels. This also includes the Disney Camp Ground too. Since, Fort Wilderness Camp ground, is also considered a resort area, you get the same choices of transportation -- Disney boat rides, the Disney Monorail, or you can take one of the Disney buses to anywhere you would like to go.
Fort Wilderness, is a fun place to camp and can be a great experience. They have lots of nice facilities. Although the camping spots are close together and you can't have an open fire, there is a good bit to do there and if you don't want to spend money you don't have to. You just need to know how to do it! With a day of traveling, a day at Universal, and then a day at Animal Kingdom, we chose to do some free relaxing things around the Disney Resorts. Since, we were camping at Fort Wilderness we decided to plan our activities around the free things that they have to offer. Some of the things are: swimming (free), bike riding on their many bike trails, (free) and you can go through their pony pet area (free as well) They have an area where little ones can ride a pony (for a very small charge). They have horse back riding (for a small charge). And in the evenings, they have a Campfire Sing-A-long. where campers all meet for some "Disney singing" (This activity is for children and adults and is also free). They have a place that you can roast marshmallows in an open pit too. The Disney Characters, Chip and Dale, come out to take pictures and sign autographs. And every night, after the Sing-A-long, they have a different Disney movie that they play on big screen for Children. There is also a very nice boat parade every evening. (free) and afterwards you can see fireworks on the beach too. (also free).
So, with all the above information here was our ALMOST Free Day!
Our day began with a lots of golf cart rides. We always enjoy seeing how other people camp so off we went to be nosy. This is a great time to see how people set up their sites, what new gadgets people have to make camping more comfortable, and we like to find out what state they live in. This is a great way to met new people. And Campers are always so friendly.
Mommy thought the children would enjoy a boat ride and also to go on a train ride (really the monorail). Since, we were out an about doing all fun things FREE, we decided to enjoy all the FREE transportation. Mommy also thought it would be fun to do a little "hotel hopping" while we were at it. The Disney Hotels are beautiful and there are alot of fun things to see since they are decorated in themes. So, we headed over to the Fort Wilderness Beach and took a very relaxing boat ride over to the Monorail.
The boat took us to the Monorail. The monorail was a fun "boy" thing to do. Hoping on and off the monorail stops is free entertainment for little children. We spent just a few hours exploring the different Hotels. Everyone had their favorites! ----A picture of the Fort Wilderness lodge. Inside the lodge are huge log beams and totum-poles. However our favorite is the Disney totum-pole!
Once we did some hotel "hoping". Mommy wanted to do a little shopping. The best place to go shopping at Disney is at the Disney Market Place. So, we decided to go on a bus to get there. The Children liked riding on the bus.
Just like Fort Wilderness, there are a lot of fun things to do at the Market Place. You could spend just a day alone there. They have the best Disney Store shopping. They have a good many restaurants, lots of fun things to do for Children, and also boat rides to some of the resorts that are in the Disney area but are not owned by Disney. The Disney Market Place is also (Free) unless you chose to buy your souvenirs there. My Children like shopping but they also like to play. So after a bit of shopping they were able to enjoy playing outside the Lego Store.
I have never know a Disney Florida Day not to be HOT! So, the little Lady decided to cool off while we were shopping! ---Do you see the holes in the side walk? It shoots up water -- She spent a little bit of time chasing the water!
Our day closed with the Sing-A-long at Camp wilderness, a hug from the Disney character, Dale the chipmunk, a marshmallow roast, and the boat parade. Then we watched a few fireworks on the beach. The little ones made it most of the way through the fireworks. They were so tired that we left early. We hopped back onto the golf cart to go to the camper where they could snuggle in their beds! They were alseep before their head hit the pillow!
