Education is a weapon, whose effect depends on who holds it in his hands and at whom it is aimed. ~ Stalin
Beloved has been taking one class at a time through Embry Riddle Aeronautical University since January. He is almost 1/2 way through his Graduate Program. I have been teasing him that I work harder in my one class than he does in his. (It is true, I tell ya!) Okay, He had to work a little when he took a class from a NASA guy who prepared the Astronauts for the Apollo 13. But, that still doesn't count in my book, it wasn't new material and all my stuff is new to me! ;)
When he came home from this past business trip, he had to sit through a 5 hour Graduate Level Statistics Class. There is no rest for the weary! I felt really sorry for him! Well, that was until I asked him what his overall GPA average was for his Graduate Program. He calculated it up and said, "It is 99.3. I must be slipping!" Don't worry. He got clobbered!
I am so proud of him! I kept encouraging him to look into it. So, he finally did just to get me off his back! He was a tough cookie about it! It took him 10 years to do so! (Not sure which one of us is more stubborn!) But, when he found out that it would be practically free due to a scholarship, he had no excuses but that it would take up time! However, with no TV channels and the classes being at night, he probably spends no more than an hour a night plus the time he has to attend the class. Yep, no excuses! And, I dare say, I think he actually enjoys it!
The best thing about doing school on-line, after the kiddos go to bed is that it rarely takes away from Family time. The Second best thing? You can do it all in your pjs! Yep, unlike Beloved who can see his classmates, I just do my assignments on a message board!
(I am reading one of the 10 essays that I had to write for my Mid-Term. The smile was for the camera person not because I am enjoying the homework assignment!)
It is a great testimony for your children to see and a wonderful role model... to persue education such as the two of you have :)
ReplyDeleteNot many can say that not only do they take graduate classes, but keep a home, homeschool their children, etc. You do it all -- including being an awesome sister & aunt!! So proud of you!
