Re-Do Scrunchie

Take your needle, my child, and work at your patterns, it will come out a rose by and by. - Holmes

The Little Lady's (age 6) sewing project the past two weeks has been to make hair scrunchies. Since, her favorite pants ripped a couple of weeks ago, we decided to do a RE-DO!

We cut the fabric into 2 strips that were measured at 4" by 16".

We cut off the bottom of the pants too.

It was cut into 3" by 15" strip.
If you look closely you can see the 4"x 16" measured out on the pants.

Fold the fabric in half. Then, she sewed the fabric with the right sides together (so the ugly side was on top) to make a tube. Don't sew the ends just sew down the long sides.

Then, she turned the tube inside out so the pretty (right) side was showing. We cut the elastic at 8". She then put the elastic through the tube and sewed the elastic ends together. Then we folded the raw ends of the fabric inside just a bit and sewed the fabric together too.

Here is the Little Lady's first re-do project and new scrunchies! She thinks it is funny that she is wearing her pants in her hair!

We like the 3" by 15" fabric look better than the 4"x 16" look for her hair. Here is the 4" and it just didn't come out as scrunchie as we like them. It was probably due to the fabric and that I had just a smaller elastic size for this one. Stick with the 3"x 15" with the 8" elastic. We had one more strip from her pants, so we took it and measured it down to make one in the size that we liked. Below is a picture of the one that isn't so scrunchy.

We practiced with getting the look we wanted as you can tell.

SEW FUN!
