Nothing great in the world has ever been accomplished without passion.” ~ Hebbel the German Poet
The Older 3 Children have passions and interest. (The Little Miss is still to young.)
This is a little different for me because I don't remember having such a passion.
Beloved did though, ever since the age of 3, he wanted to be a Pilot.
The Little Lady adores horses since she was around 2. This started by feeding Rowdy, a friend's horse, a banana and giving him a can of coke to drink.
The Little Gentleman can think of nothing else but John Deere Tractors since the age of 2, maybe a little earlier. I think this started with his Aunt giving him some John Deere DVDs and then we took him to the John Deere Pavilion.
All of these passions I have had no problem with and find it most amazing that everyone had to carry their *love* around with them. But, then there is the Little Man who thinks of nothing but cars -- mostly race cars --- which is disturbing to me! I have no interest in helping him to develop this interest. I have no idea why he likes this subject except that he is already a back seat driver.
Oh! Of course, I have gone to the library and looked for car books and children's education DVDs on the subject. (Not cartoons)He has a Historical Nascaar DVD as well. This subject is just hard for me. Most everything is geared toward Men. So, it isn't like I haven't tried to like this subject. Still, I struggle and struggle and have asked God to give him something different to adore. Nope. It is just intensifying.
I woke up with the conviction, "It isn't about me!" I hate when I am scolded by my conscious! So, I am in the process of getting my heart and mind connected.
We will be doing a a unit study on cars -- not for school -- just because I believe passion should just be directed as a life long learning pursuit! Most of you understand that this is what we do about every subject except for Math anyway. Blah, those worksheets!
He will be making a Derby Car. (Yes, I just volunteered you, Beloved!)
And, I will drive several hours away so he can go to the Corvette Museum.
I am sure the list will get longer...
* He made this card.
Ya know, that passion comes from the Lord....I don't envy you being in the position you are...as a mom, it would be hard for me to have my boys interested in race cars, my instincts, my flesh, would tell me to turn and run as well, but we just never know how the Lord is going to develop passion and how He is going to use it in our children for His glory!
ReplyDeletePlaydough sounds good to me have a passion for playdough...nice, safe, fun....lol...become a famous artist!!!
hey, yah...maybe that's it, with your son's amazing ability to draw...maybe he may end up capturing the feeling of race cars and sell them for lots of money....
ok obviously rambling here...
What a sweetie! Encouragement is the best way to go! ;-)
