"Signs are to eyes what words are to ears." ~ Glickmen
My Beloved and I went to a military formal over a year ago. During our social time, we had our daughter with us. (It was not during the formal occasion time but during the family social time) I had been teaching her some signs--eat, milk, potty, diaper change, dog, etc. She was around 10 months old at this time. (They say if you start signing early around 9 or 10 months that by the time they are 12 months they will sign back to you) Our daughter up until this time had never signed back to me but I knew that she understood a few of the signs already.
Well, Most of the military wives were wearing low cut dresses. (Apparently the fashion that season?!) So you can imagine our daughter's thought process since she was still nursing! Cleavlage meant 24hour buffet! So for the first time our daughter signed MILK! Yep, she decided that there were to many low cut dresses not to articulate that she would like to nurse! Believe me it was a good thing that she could not verbalize at this time because for each new set of low-cut cleavelage that came her way the word MILK got more pronounced and better articulated by her little hand! I know all of these women dearly and if they knew what our little one was saying they would have been beat red!
Honestly though, when dressing for a Military Formal remember you are not dressing for all the other soldiers!
