Purple Hull Peas

"Purple Hull Peas are members of the "cow pea" or "southern pea" family, just like black-eyes peas and crowder peas." Purple Hull Pea Festival

This past week we went Purple Hull Pea picking!

The Fall weather hasn't reaches the South yet! It was hot!!! But, that didn't keep the Little Gentleman from picking a bag of peas, climbing on old tractors, and getting dirty from head to toe.

The Little Ones wanted to shell the peas by hand but we picked 4 bags and a big bucket so the Farmer allowed us to hull with his pea hulling machine. Praise the Lord!!

The Little Ones loved using the pea hulling machine. They just slid the peas through the rollers. The rollers gently flatten the pea pod. This separates the peas from the pod. The pod flops into the basket and the peas go into a hole and down into a little yellow bucket.
