A Pillowcase Dress or a Sack?

Me thinks it is a token of healthy and gentle characteristics, when women of high thoughts and accomplishments love to sew; especially as they are never more at home with their own hearts than while so occupied." (The Marble Faun, Nathaniel Hawthorne)

The Little Miss knew I wanted to get a picture of her in the pillow case dress that the Little Lady and I worked on but she was in a teasing mood. She giggled and said "cheese" through the porch handrail while doing everything in her power to escape.

A simplicity sewing pattern + a youtube video too and still it looks like she is wearing a sack -- and the wind didn't help as it accented the extra material.

I will try again.

  1. Pretty cute Little Miss you have there! I LOVE all the things one can do w/ a pillow case. I saw a pattern for a (basically bodiless) doll that looked very cute! This dress idea is adorable! My twins' favorite colors are pink and purple....I will have to show them your Little Miss' dress and I'll bet we'll be having a go at pillowcase dresses too!
    Have a great day!

  3. Looks like it turned our right. They are great for kicking aroudn the house, but when I made them for our daughter she didn't go out in public in them. I like dresses with more form too. *smile* It's cute. *smile* My husband and I are with you on this one though, looks like a sack. *smile* I prefer simplicity patterns too, they just seem to have fewer peices then most. *smile* Have a great day with your little ones. *smile* Sincerely, Mommy of two little blessings & so much more!

  8. My daughter made one of these at a sewing class. She also made one for her American girl doll, they look so cute all matchy matchy. What a cute photo of her looking through the rails.

  10. Such a cute sweet little doll. My sewing machine is acting up, so I need to take it in. I can't figure it out. Would like to sew some summer dresses for the girls this year.
