Beautifully Bound

The smallest bookstore still contains more ideas of worth than have been presented in the entire history of television. ~Andrew Ross

I really like to invest in quality "practical" items of the older era.  I got that enjoyment from my Parents who like to go visit antique shops, I guess.  This time it wasn't me who found the good buy though!

Imagine my delight this past Christmas, when my Parents stepped into a little store in Alabama and came upon a small collection of hardback, 1950 edition, Landmark books. Wahoo, Livingbooks!!! They are practical, old (not twisted with an agenda) and beautifully bound.  My Parents bought all for them as a gift for the Little Ones for school. Now, that is an investment into their home-education.

We are reading "John James Audubon" right now.
And, every little bird mentioned is sending us off to Audubon iBird Pro phone application to hear their sounds.

  5. So glad you are enjoying them....with the ipad, nook and kindle, maybe someday they will be worth way more than the amount they were purchased.

  6. Yep, you and I are going to get along just great! :)

LOVE old books, LOVE (most of) that series of books! Have you tried any of the Signature series (biographies) from that same publishing time frame? I loved those in my childhood (from our library), and have loved passing them on to my kids (as I have collected them for our bookshelves).

    Yay for old books! :)

  7. Jamie! You must tell me what you don't like so I can stay clear of them. I am on the hunt for more!

And, you owe me a email about how you do languages in your curriculum! I am about to jump into the water and I am not wanting to do the standard amount of treading! :) (heehee!)

  8. I have written so many emails to you over the past few weeks (months!)...now if I could just find time to get them out of my head and into an ACTUAL email... Soon, though, soon! :)

The only Landmark I've objected to has been because of dryness, and maybe I was trying to use that particular one too early :( (I think this topic needs an email all its own too!)
