Play-dough Earth Layers

Earth Layers: Inner Core, Outer Core, Mantel, and Crust - Apologia Science

We are back to roadschooling!  Yes, just because we moved and are having to camp while we find a place to live, all the while Beloved's gets settled at his next duty station, we don't get much time off! Nope, we just carry on like we did when he went to one of his flight school a couple of months ago!  ~   Come on Summer! Right?

Well, we are still working through all of our subjects. Right now, the Little Man is learning a little about the planet Earth in his Astronomy book.

To keep the experiments from year to year a little different, we didn't do the layers of the Earth craft last year. This apparently is a big mistake in the eyes of the Little Ones. They get to the next unit subject and it appears that child remembers what the last child did in that unit and wants to do what ever experiment or craft was assigned previously! Then, if I bring out anything new, the child that did the subject before wants to do it because they didn't get a chance to! I suppose we will just call it "reinforcement" or "review".

Here is how we layered the play dough for the Earth:

RED - inner core
ORANGE - outer core
YELLOW - mantle
BLACK - crust
BLUE AND GREEN - land and water

*I printed this out and filled it away several years ago. So, I can't credit the original source. However, you can find it on pinterest and all sorts of Earth Units in which HS have done through out cyberland.

  2. Keri, I am very tired and uncomfortable, much more than all the other pregnancies. With the other 4 I was able to hike all sorts of trails (Yellowstone for example) almost up to the last few weeks. This time I get out of tired just doing every day activities. It is would be funny if I wasn’t in the middle of a move. I am trying to slow the pace down after all the events and the long drive to a much more manageable pace.

  4. okay, I admit it! I have pregnancy brain too. Keri, That should be "This time I get out of breath and stay tired just doing every day activities." ;) I am guessing every one read and added to the line as it should have been though! ;)

  5. Carmen...ah, that pregnancy brain thing...makes me chuckle..now, and even when I was in the midst of it! (There may be some controversy in our family as to whether the condition became permanent!)
I pray that the Lord will bless your time to be effective and restful and prosperous! And even that the forced slower pace will be a blessing to you! :)

  6. This looks like a cool project. I'm sure they all had fun with it. You are an amazing woman to do all that you do. Pregnant, living in a camper, homeschooling. I think I would be tempted to say "Time for spring break" or some kind of break. Enjoy your day and God bless.
