Husband Quality List

"...A warrior is one who can stand between the enemy and all the ones he holds dear." - The Warrior's Choice

I was told when I was younger (around 12 or so) that a really good thing to do is make a character list of all the qualities you want in your future husband (or wife).  Then, put that list into a safe place.  You can take it out every now and then to add to it but definitely take it out when you are  considering a potential prospect.  Recently, I found this list with scripture verses attached to it and I thought it was a sweet little nugget to share.

"Here are some of the items that should go on your list in desiring a future husband to be:
  • a follower of Christ -  2 Cor 6:14
  • a servant - Matt 20:26-28
  • a leader - Eph 5:22-23
  • surrenders to the will of God and His providence - Ps 37 - Rom 12:1, Rom 8:28
  • fears the Lord - Ps 112:1, Prov 19:23
  • a multi-generational visionary - Ps 132:12, Luke 1:50
  • delights in the word of God - Ps 1:2-3, MatT 4:4
  • gentle and understanding - Eph 5:25, 1st Pet 3:7
  • humble in all things - Rom 12:16
  • a lover of children - Ps 127:3-5
  • bold in sharing his faith - Ps 40:10
  • a seeker of wisdom - Heb 11:6
  • an encourager - Heb 10:24-25
  • entrepreneurially minded - Matt 25:14-30
  • debt free - Rom 13:8, Prov 22:7
  • believes in the sufficiency and inerrancy of scripture - 2nd Tim 3:16-17
  • hopeful - Jer 29:11
  • a son that honors his parents - Eph 6:2-3
  • is sober-minded - Phil 4:8
  • a provider - 1st Tim 5:8
  • growing in sanctification - Gal 5:22-23
  • generous in his time and possessions - Acts 20:35, 2nd Cor 9:6-7
  • desires to take every thought captive - 2nd Cor 10:5
  • a peacemaker - Rom 12:18
  • dedicated to prayer - Phil 4:6-7
Sure, this list might come across a little hefty. However, Scripture does makes it clear that a man who truly fears the Lord will desire to possess these Biblical qualities."  -   Esther Leclerc

  3. Hello :)
I saw you are following me at DiamondsintheRough, and had to come say hi. I made a list like this, too, when I was about 15. At the time it had nothing to do with the Bible's recommendations for a good spouse; it was just my own fantasy. For many years I kept that list in my Bible, but I eventually lost it in one of our many moves. God was good to give me a man twenty-six years ago, who, to the best of my recollection, fits that list, and where he doesn't, I have forgotten what I wanted instead, so it doesn't matter. :) God bless you and your family!
